Reflecting on a Successful Year: Key Insights from Mil Sistemika’s December Workshop on Military Communications
As we close out a successful and transformative year, Mil Sistemika hosted an impactful workshop in December 2024, focused on “Lessons Learned from Ukraine and the Use of Public Networks for Video Streaming.” This event provided a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of emerging technologies, security, and defense operations. Lessons from Ukraine: The Strategic Role of Satellite Communications
A key highlight of the workshop was a presentation from an expert in satellite communications at Inmarsat / Viasat. The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has highlighted the strategic importance of reliable, secure communication networks for military and humanitarian operations. In remote areas or when traditional infrastructure is damaged or overwhelmed, satellite communications have become a lifeline for maintaining connectivity.
The expert introduced L-TAC – a flexible and cost-effective solution for Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) communications, enabling military and first responder teams to maintain voice and data connectivity globally, independent of local infrastructure through our secure satellite communication network.
The Growing Role of Public Networks for Video Streaming
Another important topic was addressed by Timtec Defence. This discussion focused on the increasing reliance on public networks for video and data streaming in military operations.
However, using public networks for military applications presents its own set of challenges. The speaker focused on the practicalities of using public networks for military use and the potential challenges and solutions that come with this approach. Public networks, while increasingly reliable, require careful consideration of bandwidth, latency, and security to ensure they can handle the high volume of data generated by video feeds in real-time.
